Status of women
Finnish women were the first women in Europe to gain the right to vote in 1907. The 19 female Members of Parliament elected that year were the first in the world. Finland’s first female minister was Miina Sillanpää, who was the Minister of Social Affairs from 1926 to 1927. In 2019, a total of 93 women were elected to the Finnish Parliament. Finland has had three female Prime Ministers.
